Bio

Alma J. Strain passed away on May 25, 2019 at the Wilber Care Center. She was born on January 30, 1929 at the farm home of parents Joseph & Christina Kraus in Seward County near Pleasant Dale. She attended country school in Seward County and Crete High School. On May 21, 1945 Alma married Robert Kovar. They lived on a farm north of Crete for 5 years. In 1950 they moved to a ranch in Wheeler County near Bartlett, NE. Then, in 1951 they returned to Crete and resided in town and operated a trucking business. In 1958 they sold the business and Robert went to work for the F & M Oil Company at Crete where he worked until his death in March of 1969 as a result of the anhydrous ammonia disaster. In 1956 Alma went to work at Formfit Rogers. In her early years she was active in her children's lives as a 4-H leader and Sokol gym group. In later years she was active in volunteering for the following organizations: American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, Bloodmobile, Veterans Hospital in Lincoln, and The Red Cross. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and fellowship with everyone she knew. 1975 married Charles Strain. Alma is survived by children: Diana Pomajzl, Agnes Snyder, Roberta (Richard) Strain, Jodi (Dennis) Schlake, 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandsons, brother Alvin Kraus, sisters Irene Boshart and Mabel Sysel, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Kovar, son Gayle Kovar, husband Charles Strain, brothers Richard, Leonard, Robert, and Bernard.
