The Gypsum Advocate, Gypsum, Kans. 4-5-1912: Died in California. Virgil A. Snoddy Brought to Gypsum For Burial. Mr. Virgil A. Snoddy, one of the pioneer settlers of the Gypsum Valley, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Fannie Tolle, at Paso Robles, California, last Friday, to which place he had gone, about two weeks ago, from Kansas City, with the hopes of regaining his health. Virgil A. Snoddy was born near Glasco, in Barren County, Kentucky, February 7, 1845, and died March 29, 1912, in Paso Robles, California, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Fannie Tolle. Mr. Snoddy first came to McPherson County, Kansas, about 1868 and homesteaded a farm on Gypsum Creek, north of Roxbury. A few years later he returned to Kentucky; and in the fall of 1878 was united in marriage to Miss Syrena A. Dennis, of Glasco, Kentucky, to which union two daughters were born. The following spring they returned to Kansas and went to housekeeping on their farm. On July 4, 1885 Mrs. Snoddy passed away. In 1885 Mr. Snoddy opened a general store in Gypsum in partnership with his brother-in-law, E. C. Davidson, which was the second store here. In the winter of 1886 he moved his family to Gypsum, where he lived until July, 1911 when he moved to Kansas City. He united with the M. E. Church in 1859. He was a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge for about 25 years. He leaves to mourn his death two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Milham and Miss Grace Snoddy, both of Kansas City; one grandson, two sisters, Mrs. E. C. Davidson, of this city; and Mrs. Fannie Tolle, of Paso Robles, Calif.; and two brothers, C. B. and J. A. Snoddy, both of Kentucky; besides a host of friends. The body, which is being shipped to Gypsum for burial, is expected to arrive today. The funeral services will be held at the M. E. church, the time of which will be announced later. Interment will be in Hope cemetery. The Lindsborg News-Record, Lindsborg, Kans. 4-5-1912: The body of Virgil Snoddy who died in Calif. was sent back and will be buried in the Tolle Cemetery. ----- 1850 census, Barren Co, Ky: Daniel Snoddy 78 Virginia William H Snoddy 40 Virginia Ann E Snoddy 40 Virginia Mary J Snoddy 16 Kentucky Lucretia A Snoddy 11 Kentucky Christopher B Snoddy 9 Kentucky Sarah T D Snoddy 7 Kentucky Virgil A Snoddy 5 Kentucky Martha E W Snoddy 2 Kentucky 1900 census, Eureka Twp, Gypsum town, Saline Co, Ks: Virgil Snoddy 55 Kentucky Bernice Snoddy 20 Kansas - daughter Grace Snoddy 19 Kansas - daughter Lucretia Snoddy 61 Kentucky - sister
