Bio

Joe Oliver Martin, of Mesquite, went to be with our Lord on Friday, July 16,2021 due to complications from Alzheimer's. He was 81 years old. Joe was born in Corsicana on July 12,1940 to Harvey and Burnie Martin. In 1958, his life changed when he met and married the love of his life, Rose. Their union was blessed with two beautiful daughters. Joe was known as DJ or Pop to his wife and Daddy Joe, Grand Daddy, and DD to his daughters, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, William Martin of Bedford and Harvey Martin Jr. Joe loved God, family, country, and fishing. He was raised on a cotton farm near Corsicana. Picking cotton was not his idea of the way to spend his life so he would avoid it as much as possible. Joe did not mind work, but he just wanted to get paid for it. He proved that throughout the following years. At 17, he moved to Dallas, started work as delivery for Fox Films, then later went into the graphic engraving profession. In addition to the M-F job he would work parttime. For his 25th wedding anniversary, Joe purchased Cobb Creek Marina which he maintained on weekends and vacation days for 20 years. As time would allow, Joe enjoyed playing basketball, drag car racing, lifting weights and fishing. He retired in 2010 due to onset of Alzheimer's. Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rose Martin; sisters Gladys Ivy of Corsicana and Marie Calentine; brother, Truman Martin; daughters Eva Lynette Jones and husband Mark and daughter Tracy De'Ann Hughes and husband Theo; grandchildren Steven Wade and wife Eva, Barbra Weber and husband Russell, Christina Easterling and husband James, David Chesney and wife Alex, and Bobby Chesney and wife Meghan; great-grandchildren Ciera Wade, Merrick Dotson, Hannah, Hadassah, Daniyah, Peter, J. T. Easterling, and Wyatt Wade; and many nieces and nephews. Thanks for the wonderful care which Joe received at Faith Comfort Care Home and the staff from Carepath Home Health & Hospice. Those serving as pallbearer will be David Chesney, Bobby Chesney, James Easterling, Mark Jones, and Steven Wade. Honorary Pallbearers include Theo Hughes, Patrick Martin, Russell Weber, Matt Landwermeyer, Derrick Landwermeyer, and Bobby Unger.
