Bio

Son of Clyde & Frances (Hart) Hoops. Married to Della Holder on 12-28-1938. He worked on the family farm near the Platte River along Hwy. 281 (now owned by Crane Meadows) until he married. He then worked as a switchman for the Union Pacific Railroad until an accident in 1944 that took his leg. After recovering, he moved to Janesville, Wash., and started the Janesville Livestock Auction. He later began Hoops Livestock Barn in Humboldt, Iowa, which he ran with his father, Clyde, and his brother, Bill. In the mid- '50s he was a livestock dealer in Bethany, Mo. In 1957-58 he owned the Bottle Shop in McCook. From May 1958 until January 1960, he owned another livestock sales barn in Mobridge, S.D. A lake project put the land under water, so Charles moved his family back to Bethany, Mo., to build a fourth livestock auction company. In 1962, he settled his family in Grand Island. He worked as a car salesman, was a dispatcher for the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, and owned Star Liquor until he retired in 1975.
