Bio

From an old scrapbook furnished by Zoe Hazelwood. Unnamed newspaper obituary, dated Feb. 2, 1937: “Frank Jones Rites Held. Former Lamar County Commissioner Buried Wednesday at Roxton. Funeral services for J. Frank Jones, former county commissioner, who died of a fractured skull Monday night at St. Joseph’s Hospital, were set for 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the residence, 103 South Fifteenth street, conducted by the Rev. W. M. Wright of First Baptist Church and the Rev. F. D. Coppin, Baptist pastor at Roxton. Burial was to be made at Roxton cemetery, Emberson-Brown-Roden funeral home here having charge and pallbearers being K. Hunter Bywaters, Red Vandergriff and Johnson Hunter of Roxton; W. A. Cawthon, John Barnes and Clyde Shelton of Paris. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Jane Jones of Paris; his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Earl Hutchison of Carrizo Springs and Mrs. Lemuel Breckeen of Howland, a son, Roy Jones of Roxton; three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. R. F. DeWitt of Chicago; Mrs. R. E. Bost of Paris; Mrs. E. B. Cross of New Orleans; R. L. Jones of Detroit and W. R. Jones of High. There are 11 grandchildren. Mr. Jones was fatally hurt when a horse he was currying at the stock barn where he was employed, kicked a heavy wooden gate bar which struck Mr. Jones in the chest and knocked him down. His skull was fractured when his head struck the floor and he died several hours later.” From an old scrapbook of newspaper clippings and obituaries collected by Ada Bradley Yates of High community, transcribed by Phillip Rutherford. Unnamed, undated newspaper: “Frank Jones was the commissioner of Precinct 2 for eight years concluding in 1934. While he was currying a horse, the horse kicked a heavy wooden gate latch which struck Jones in the chest and knocked him down. His head hit the concrete floor causing a skull fracture. The accident occurred at Lamar Truck and Tractor Co.’s stock barn in Paris. Information from Pedigree Chart of Duane E. Brecheen, 7 Apr 1996, LaQuinta, CA: John Franklin Jones was born Farmington, Francois Co., MO, the son of John Wilson Jones and Rebecca Jane Silvey Jones. He married 21 Dec 1892 in Howland to Lula Mae Derrick the daughter of John Washington Derrick and Molly Morris Derrick.
