Bio

From Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home: Rosa Lee Schwope, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away May 24, 2021, at the age of 85 while she was a patient at Methodist Hospital. She was born on February 17, 1936, in Moulton, Texas. Her parents, now deceased, were Eddie and Ida Marie Culak. Rosa Lee was also preceded in death by her husband, Lee Miles Schwope; her brother, Melvin Culak; and her sister, Alice Canon. Rosa Lee is survived by her two daughters, Connie Wuest (Billy), of Fredericksburg and Melissa Harris (Paul) of Comfort. She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Miles (Samantha) of Schertz, Tyler (Kate) of Indianapolis, and Dakota (Derek) of Boerne; and four great-grandchildren: Conner and Stevie Harris of Montana, Brandon and Summerlynn Harris of Schertz. Rosa Lee leaves behind one sister, Diana McCollum of San Antonio, and numerous nieces and nephews. When Rosa Lee was a young child her parents moved to Boerne. She graduated high school in Boerne where she was an avid tennis player. She met Lee Schwope and they were united in marriage on June 29, 1955. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Connie and Melissa. While taking care of her family, she attended LVN school in Kerrville and graduated in 1968. She began her nursing career at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio when it was just a new hospital in the sticks. Look at it now. Her specialty and love was working in labor and delivery, especially enjoying all of the babies. This love of babies and children carried on throughout her entire life sometimes caring for 5 to 7 children at a time in her home. After working for Methodist, she finished her career working for Dr. Donald Krause as his office nurse. Rosa Lee and her husband cared for their three grandchildren on the weekends where they did all the things she loved including camping, playing ball, going to Sunday school, but especially dancing. She loved to dance and particularly polkas. She and several of her friends would travel all around the hill country and east of San Antonio to go to a good dance. Rosa Lee could not stay away from working for very long, however. She began working as the director of the nursery at St. Johns for many years. She also worked at St. Marks Presbyterian Church in Boerne caring for the children in the nursery. Never willing to give up caring for babies, she took the most pride and joy caring for her great grandson, Brando. It was very obvious to see the close bond that she and Brandon had. Rosa Lee loved her family very much and worked to do anything for them at any time. She never missed anyone's birthday or holiday without sending them a card with money in it. But her generosity did not stop there. She helped anyone in need whether it was babysitting their children or staying with a sister who had just had surgery. She was there for everyone; and we are so blessed we all had her in our lives. We are especially blessed because her last day on this earth was a fantastic one. She got to tell her daughters, her sister and her grandson how great she felt, and how happy she was. Yes, Momma, God blessed you and God blessed us. A Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Boerne City Cemetery.
