CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA – Iva "JJ" Salyer, 80, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021, at her home. She was born in Castlewood, Virginia; daughter of the late Claude Swanson and Bertha Estill Baker Castle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Conrad Salyer and her brother, Bernard Swanson Castle. JJ loved to spend time with her family and cooking and baking for them and for her friends. She enjoyed cross stitching, doing embroidery, and reading. She was also an excellent, much sought after caregiver for many people who became like family to her. She is survived by two nephews; Jeff Castle and wife, Mandy of Castlewood, Virginia, and Kevin Castle and wife, Becky of Kingsport, Tennessee; one stepson, Kerry Simpson and wife, Darcy of Buford, Georgia; five great nieces and great nephews, Candace Castle, Alyssa Castle, Kacie Royston and husband, Cullen, Nathaniel Castle, and Jasper Strange; special friends, Dixie Mitchell, Jackie and Bill White, Pam Helbert, Patti Sanders, Michelle Benner, Pam Culbertson, Matthew Keith and his family, Bernice and Jim Easterwood, and Tim, Kelly, and Becky Buxton. Funeral Service for Iva "JJ" Salyer will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 28, 2021, in the Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel in Castlewood, Virginia with Pastor Travis Price officiating. Committal Service and Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Jeff Castle, Kevin Castle, Alex Baker, Alan Baker, Matthew Keith, and Bill White. Honorary Pallbearers will be Amanda House, Charles House, Clayton House, and Herman House. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Castlewood Funeral Home in Castlewood, Virginia. Special thanks to Matthew Keith and his family, Jackie and Bill White, Lois Mullins, Ruby Meade, and many others who have been of assistance during her illness.
