Joe Frank Zajicek, 99, of Temple, Texas, formerly of Buckholts, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, just 22 days before his 100th birthday. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial will be at Hope Lutheran Memorial Park in Buckholts. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at the funeral home. Joe was born on a farm 1½ miles west of Buckholts, Texas, to the late Joe and Caroline (Ermis) Zajicek, and was one of nine children in his family. At the age of 14, Joe began working as a mechanic at Walchak Garage in Buckholts. He also worked at his uncle Albert Zajicek's store. He later went to Houston to work for Kadalcek Garage, but returned to Buckholts and bought the Kadalcek Garage in Buckholts. On Sep. 19, 1936, he married Lillie Roesler of Ben Arnold. They started in the Gas and Oil business, which was called Service Oil Co. They also bought land and farmed and got into the chicken and hog business. Joe worked at Montgomery Wards Tire Store for eight years and later managed the Farmers Gin in Buckholts. Joe was the last surviving member of his family. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe, John, Anton, and Thomas; and sisters, Marie, Anne, Sylvia and Caroline. Survivors include his wife, Lillie, of Temple; sons, Joe Dean Zajicek and wife, Bernice, of Waco, Walter Anton Zajicek and wife, Bennie Marie, of Bryan, and Jackie Louis Zajicek and wife, Suzanne, of Copperas Cove; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
