Bio
Raymond J. Fiala, 80, husband of Marla R. (Scott) Fiala, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021 at his residence in Pemberly Place, Lincoln. Born June 21, 1940 in Ulysses, Nebraska, he was the son of the late Charles J. Fiala and Anastasia (Sobotka) Fiala. Ray graduated from Valparaiso High School and the University of Nebraska--Lincoln. A former employee of Style Mark Corporation, Ray started a carpentry business in his garage at home and built it into Ray's Custom Cabinets and Fiala Construction. In his retirement, he traveled the world with Marla, his wife of 58 years, spent time with lifelong friends, Marvin and Jeannie Trouba, and enjoyed attending or watching all the high school and college sporting events Nebraska has to offer, particularly Cornhusker football and volleyball. Ray was a beloved husband, excellent father, proud grandfather, and hard-working, humble man. Ray is survived by his wife, Marla; children and daughter-in-law, David and Carolyn Fiala, Lincoln, Debra R. Fiala, Omaha, and Lisa Bell, Lincoln; grandchildren, Hayley Bell, Garrett Bell, Andrea Fiala, and Kathryn Fiala; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley and Sally Fiala, Chandler, AZ, and Charles and DeeDee Fiala, Garland; sister-in-law, Bernadine Fiala, Bee; sister-in-law, Karen Berry, Albuquerque, NM; and many loved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Orletha Ann and Gerald Kane, DeLores and Cy Hain, and Margaret and Bernard Maloney; brother, Edmund Fiala; infant brother, Donald Fiala; sister-in-law, Joyce Fiala; and brother-in-law, Willis Berry. Graveside service : Valparaiso Cemetery.
