Janis Catherine Carter, 67, passed away in Palmer, Texas on Monday, April 5, 2021 surrounded by her family. Jan was born in Ennis, Texas on July 4, 1953 to Emil and Agnes (Vavra) Pekar. She grew up in Ennis and graduated from St. John's High School in 1971. On March 9, 1973 Jan married the love of her life, Lynn Carter; they were married for over 46 years. Jan and Lynn made their home in Ennis and settled in Palmer in 1977. Jan was a devoted wife, mother, and Gran Gran. She loved attending all of her families sporting events and school functions. She enjoyed spending her time outdoors maintaining her yard and crawfishing with the kids. She loved going to the beach and walking the sand looking for seashells and sand dollars. Jan worked for Ennis Business Forms for many years and following her time at EBF, she worked for Walmart for 15+ years. Jan was a devoted Catholic and faithfully attended St. John's Catholic Church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and her family will miss her most of all including her daughter, Leslie Stowhas and husband, Enrique; her son, Ashley Carter and wife, Hannah; and her grandsons, Layton, Enrique Jr., Dylan, Christian, and West. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister, Marcy Rankin, and niece, Kathy (Rankin) Turner. Visitation and Rosary will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis. The visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Rosary will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. immediately following. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Father John as Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. Pallbearers will be Ashley Carter, Layton Ranson, Dylan Ranson, Enrique Stowhas Jr., Randy Rankin, Danny Rankin, Steve Rankin, and Douglas Turner. J. E.
