William "Bill" Kent Hurner, 67, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021 at his home in rural Overbrook, Kansas. He was born on September 4, 1953 in Monroe, Nebraska, the son of Kenneth and Delores (Penhollow) Hurner. Bill had lived in Scranton for several years before moving to the farm near Overbrook in 1996. Bill graduated from Nodaway County High School in Graham, Missouri in 1971. He then served in the United States Air Force from 1972 to 1975 during the Vietnam War. Bill worked as a supervisor for Essex Wire in Topeka for over 20 years until the plant closed. After Essex closed, Bill then turned his time to his and Orlana's true passion and business, Future Quarter Horses. Bill was a local horse Farrier, trainer, and breeder. He also worked at the Overbrook Sale Barn for many years. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, the Osage Wrangler Team Penning Club and always helped with the North Osage 4-H group. Bill was married January of 2005. They shared over sixteen years of marriage. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Delores. Bill is survived by his wife, his three children, and his six grandchildren that he loved and adored. Bill will be cremated and a memorial service will be announced for a later date.
