Bio

Kenneth G. "Ken" Hurner, 72, Branson, Mo., formerly of Skidmore, Mo., died Friday, Aug. 11, 1995, at his home. Born Nov. 4, 1922, in Columbus, Neb., to Ernst and Eunice Lentz Hurner, he graduated from Monroe, Neb. schools. He had been employed by banks in Missouri and Nebraska for more than 30 years. He was instrumental in reorganizing the Punkin Show in Skidmore and in starting the Freedom Festival. He also served on the first Skidmore Housing Board. He was a World War II veteran of the Army. He also was a member of the United Methodist Church, Sam R. Albright American Legion Post No. 411, the Masons, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Town & Country Saddle Club, all of Skidmore; the Missouri Banks Association; and the Scottish Rite and Moila Shrine Temple, both of St. Joseph. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores Penhollow Hurner, and two brothers, Richard and Robert. On July 16, 1981, he married Sherrill Flanary Reed. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Bill, Scranton, Kan.; two step-daughters, Julie Carpenter, Aurora, Colo., and Robyn Reed, Branson; a grandchild; and two step-grandchildren. Mr. Hurner was cremated. A graveside memorial service and inurnment, with military rites was Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore. Arrangements; Johnson Funeral Home, Maryville, Mo.
