June Horton-Mazzola, age 83, of Aquilla, passed away late Friday afternoon, March 26, 2021, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 1, 2021, at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West with Pastor. Jesse Motley officiating. Burial will follow at New Lebanon Cemetery near Aquilla. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Limited capacity, face masks, and social distancing are encouraged. June was born June 8, 1937, in Waco, the daughter of Milton and Lillian (Johnson) Reese. She was a 1956 graduate of University High School in Waco. On March 30, 1956, she was united in marriage to J.D. Horton in Waco. He preceded her in death on October 10, 2005. June was later united in marriage to Ronald Mazzola on November 11, 2011, in Aquilla. June was a member of Aquilla Baptist Church. She became a licensed vocation nurse after attending nursing school at West Community Hospital. And later received her registered nursing degree from McLennan Community College. She worked at the Hillsboro Nursing Home and hospitals in West, Waco, Marlin, and Mexia for many years before retiring in 2004. June enjoyed traveling, snow skiing, watching basketball, deer hunting, riding horses, eating out, and attending many church activities. June was known to be a very sweet but yet hard-headed person. She loved spending time with her family and friends. June is also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Perry Horton; sisters, Doris Good, Ruth Mayfield, and Betty Starling; and brothers, Robbie Reese and Jerry Reese. Survivors include her husband, Ronald Mazzola of Aquilla; her sons, Parker Horton and wife Marcy of West and Paul Horton and wife Karren of Aquilla; a daughter-in-law, Pam Horton of Aquilla; her grandchildren, Danielle Bennett and husband Andrew, Chance Horton and wife Lea, Sarah Gaudet, Christine Horton, James Horton, and wife Janelle, and Lillian Horton; her great-grandchildren, Lydia, Michael, and Paxton; a brother, Larry Reese; a sister, Verlon Schoff; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
