Austin Statesman, Mon., 23 Mar 1964 The death certificate for Mary Kropp Zgabaj does not say she was born in Bonham. It says Bohemia, and that is not correct either. When she was enumerated on 26 June 1880 in Williamson County with her parents and siblings, she was the fourth out of five children, and she was four years old. On 20 Sept 1894, she was married to Paul Zgabaj in Granger by Rev Frances Pridal assigned to SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger. They were not located in the 1900 census. In 1910, Paul Zgabaj was enumerated with their three children, Joe, Frances and Lillie, along with his brother-in-law Thomas Kropp and his wife Francis. Paul said he was married and had been for 16 years. In 1920, 1930 and 1940, he said he was widowed. On 21 March 1964, his wife Mary Zgabaj died in the Austin State Hospital. The death certificate, based on hospital records, said that her length of stay was 56 years, seven months, and 16 days. Based on that, she was institutionalized on 5 Aug 1907, which explains why she was not living with husband Paul and family. She was most assuredly born in Texas. Her parents were married in Galveston County in 1867 and according to his death certificate, her brother Anton was born there as well. On all censuses in which they appear, all of her children give their Mother's place of birth as Texas. She died in Austin. --Joe David Contributor: Joe David (48095253) • [email protected]
