Bio
Margaret Maxine Svehlak of Dallas, TX passed away peacefully February 12, 2021. Maxine lived to serve others and radiated warmth to all around her. Maxine was born on October 11, 1931, to Bernard and Elva O'Brien in Dubuque, Iowa. She grew up a kid of the Midwest and inherited values that would benefit her family one day. She grew up helping at the family grocery store, riding her white horse, and exploring with her friends. After graduating high school from St. Joseph Academy, her family moved to Texas. Once in Texas, Maxine worked as an executive secretary at Chance Vought and later at Allstate Insurance. Her experiences of the depression, WWII, and her young professional life made her a strong woman. In 1961 she met and married Stanley Louis Svehlak and settled in the Oak Cliff neighborhood in Dallas, Texas. For the next 36 years she was the visionary and partner with her husband in running the family business, Stan's Country Kitchen. Throughout the decades Maxine was a guiding light to her family. She ran a household with energy, a special wisdom, a keen sense of humor and goodness, guiding her four children through seemingly endless activities of school, with special memories of her efforts volunteering at St. Elizabeth's Catholic School. She emanated love and kindness to all who knew her. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Stan, parents; brothers, John D. "Dean" O'Brien and Bernard W. "Bill" O'Brien, and sister, Mercedes Johnson. SURVIVORS: Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jane Svehlak of Arlington, Texas, Patricia Richards and husband Alden Richards of Basalt, Colorado, Bill Svehlak of Fort Worth, Texas, and Susanne Svehlak of Duncanville, Texas. Maxine is survived by four grandchildren, Makaela Richards, and Olivia, Julia and Jake. MEMORIAL SERVICE: Vigil 10:30 a.m. followed by Funeral Mass 11 a.m., Friday, February 26th at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2100 N Davis Dr, Arlington, TX 76012. The family welcomes your prayers in lieu of attendance during this time of COVID-19, however, we appreciate your efforts in attending memorial services if you are comfortable. The church maintains strict social distancing and sanitation to ensure safety.
