Bio

James Melvin Williams, 83, died Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at his residence. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at First United Pentecostal Church in Brandon. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Pentecostal Church in Arkadelphia, Arkansas with burial in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Mr. Williams was born July 6, 1924 in Arkadelphia where he had been a longtime resident and has lived in Rankin County for the past two years. He was a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Brandon and had been a longtime member of First United Pentecostal Church in Arkadelphia where he had served as a deacon. Mr. Williams was retired from the U. S. Postal Service and served as a volunteer at Central School at early morning bus duty. He also had delivered papers for the Daily Siftings Herald in Arkadelphia. Mr. Williams was a World War II Army Veteran and one of his favorite pastimes was playing the violin for his church. Survivors include: his wife, Pauline Williams of Pearl; daughters, Cindy Becton and husband, Rev. David Becton of Pearl, Candy Maddox and husband, Scott of Bossier City, La.; brother, Sam Williams of Oakdale, La.; sister, Helen Willingham of Malvern, Arkansas; grandchildren, Shelly and husband, Jay, Brett, Meagan, Haley and Peyton; great grandchildren, Michael, Nathan, Jenson, Jake and Jessi. He was preceded in death by his brother, Glen Williams. Memorials may be made to the First United Pentecostal Church in Brandon. Published in the Clarion Ledger on 10/18/2007.
