Bio

Franklin Delano Varva, of Newalla, Oklahoma, went to be with his Heavenly Father on January 24, 2021, at the age of 85.  He was born November 28, 1935, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, to Joe Frank & Gladys Belle (Clompton) Varva. Franklin was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church in Norman.  He enjoyed fishing and farming.  Franklin raised cattle and hogs. He also cut and bailed hay.  Franklin enjoyed going to fishing trade shows at the fairgrounds as well as junk car shows.   He was a huge Oklahoma State Cowboys fan.  Franklin enjoyed watching fishing with Hank Parker and The Bill Dance Show.  He attended Anadarko High School where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA.)  Franklin heard his country’s call and proudly served in the United States Navy and received an Honorable Discharge for services rendered to his country when called upon to do so.  He was employed by Southwestern Bell as a repairman and retired after 30 years of service, and then became a full-time farmer and farmed for approximately 30 years. Franklin was always happy – Daniel said his dad was easy-going and down-to-earth.  His son, Patrick said his dad never met a stranger and would talk to anybody.  Christy said her father-in-law was always there when anyone needed help or something needed to be fixed.  Some folks referred to him as “ornery outfit,” because he was always cracking jokes.  Franklin had a kind and loving heart.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, and friend.  His first love was his Lord and Savior, and being with Janis, the love of his life for 53 years.  He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Franklin is survived by his wife, Janis Varva, of the home; 5 sons, Clint Varva, of Cache, Oklahoma, John Varva, of Cache, Oklahoma, Daniel Varva & wife, Keri, of Bridge Creek, Oklahoma, Patrick Varva, of Newcastle, Oklahoma, and Michael Varva & wife, Christy, of Edmond, Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mary Ann, of Oklahoma City; and a host of other loving family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Joe & Gladys Varva; and 3 brothers, Joe, Gordon, and Richard Varva. Visitation for Franklin will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Wednesday, January 27th, and from 9:00 AM to 8:30 PM, Thursday, January 28th, at the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel, located at 120 South Broadway, in Moore, Oklahoma.  Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 29, 2021, at Sunset Memorial Park, 2301 E. Indian Hills Rd., in Norman, Oklahoma.
