Ruth was born on May 6, 1938 in Kiomatia, Texas and lived most of her life in Lubbock, Texas with her mother and sister. Ruth worked at Furrs Cafeteria where her regular customers enjoyed her happy spirit and positive attitude for over 30 years. Ruth was always a giving soul; she would help out her mother and sister on her day off so that they could have a good start to their day. She was also a gracious receiver; she enjoyed each and every gift that her family gave to her. Her servant heart permeated throughout her life and she willingly sacrificed to support her family’s dreams. Ruth moved to Oklahoma City in 2017 to be closer to her son and his wife after she suffered an injury. At that same time, her sister Doris moved to New Mexico to live with son and wife, Jim and Karen Blagg. Ruth enjoyed her granddaughters and welcomed the additions of their husbands and a great granddaughter who gave her great joy during the last two years of her life. She was always so proud of her family and their accomplishments. During the spring of 2018, Ruth moved to The Fountains at Canterbury where she met many friends. She was an avid walker greeting the other residents and staff each day as she walked around in the hallways. Bingo and Uno were two of her favorite activities along with arts and crafts. Each month the activity department invited the Oklahoma Arts Council to assist the residents with mixed media art projects. This opportunity allowed Ruth to discover her artistic talent. Her passing has left all that knew and loved her with a heavy heart, but we know she is in her eternal home in Heaven. Her parents, Burt and Dollye Garrett, brother Bill Garrett, and former husband Leo L. Wheeler preceded Ruth in death. She is survived by her sister Doris Garrett Blagg, brother and wife Mack Garrett and Judi Garrett, son and wife Richard Wheeler and Deborah Wheeler, granddaughter and husband Kristen Wheeler Kirch and Karl Kirch, granddaughter and husband Kimberly Wheeler Courtney and Joshua Courtney, great granddaughter Kathryn Hazel Kirch, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Gifts may be made to Hearts for Hearing (www.heartsforhearing.org). Viewing will be held 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Yanda & Son Funeral Home, Yukon, OK. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 20 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Wheatland, OK.
