Richard Briner, 83, of Creston, died Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. Richard Burl Briner, son of Violet (Grimm) Briner and Burl Briner, was born September 8, 1930 in Sergeant Bluff, Neb. Richard was educated in the Ringgold County Schools. Richard grew up in Ringgold County where he drove a gravel truck with his Uncle Lloyd. On January 17, 1952, Richard married Marcella Johnson in Georgia. Richard served in the United States Army from 1952 – 1954. After his discharge in 1954, they settled in Ringgold County. There he farmed and was later a Marshall in Diagonal. They were later divorced. On December 31, 1982, Richard later married Dora May (Fisher) Sparr in Creston. They lived most of their married life in Creston. Rich drove a truck for Creston Transportation and later for Cropmate, retiring in 1992. He also did some mowing, home cooking and delivered meals to his wife. Richard was a member of the FOE Eagles Lodge #1398, of Creston. Richard is survived by his wife Dora Briner of Creston; a daughter, Lynne Harry (husband Scott) of Orient, Ia.; five sons, Jim (wife Joyce) Johnson of Mt. Ayr,, Allen (wife Marcia) of Kansas City, Mo., Steve (wife Paula) Briner of Weatherford, Texas, Kenny (wife Karla) Shaw of Creston and Mike (wife Cindy) Briner of Creston; three brothers, Earl (wife Colleen) Briner of Tingley, Ia., Van (wife Elaine) Briner of Ottumwa, Ia. and Greg Briner of Tingley, Ia.; three sisters, Claudette Young of Leon, Pam (husband Dan) Weigel of Greenfield, Ia. and Debbie Briner of Grant City, Mo.; a brother-in-law, George Dailey of Maloy; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, his son, Kevin in 1997, a daughter, Sandy in 2012; and a grandson Blake Briner in 2013, a brother, Tyronne Briner and two sisters, Joquetta Briner at birth, Alverta Dailey in 2009.
