Duward Michael "Mickey" Yowell of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on January 8th, 2021 after his short battle with Covid and Pneumonia. He was born in Sherman, TX, on May 23rd, 1947, son of the late R.C. Yowell and Mary-Ruth Yowell. Mickey finished R.L. Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas, with the class of 1965. He then served two years in the United States Army, and was deployed to Vietnam for 1 year between 1967-68. In Vietnam he was responsible for saving many lives of his fellow soldiers and received a Letter of Accommodation from his superior, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Marksman Rifle Specialist. After the Army, he followed in his father's footsteps and hired on at Frisco Railroad, later to become BNSF where he worked for over 40 years and retired. Mickey was an incredible locomotive engineer. He loved music and it was essential to his life. As a young boy, he learned how to read and write music and play the guitar. If you ever visited him, he would be sure to play music by his favorite artists Slim Whitman and/or Jim Reeves. He absolutely enjoyed having everyone over to sing Karaoke and also, listen to his eldest son, Jeffrey Yowell, play guitar and sing songs. Mickey had a heart of gold. He showed so much love to everyone he met. No matter who you were, if you needed a hug or strong hand to hold, he gave it. He didn't care about business, the pursuit of money, fancy things, he was ALL about his family. He showered his family with love and was a devout husband to Cindy for 45 years. When his 1st grandbaby, Alyssa was born in 2002, the advice he gave to Jeremy, her father his son, was simple: "Love her, and she will love you back." Those words he not only lived by, but was who he was. He loved us all. In-turn, we loved him back. In his own words, Mickey wrote this song regarding Faith in Jesus Christ to give us all hope when we need it: "Strong As The Trees" As I look at the trees wind blowing their leaves, As the limbs bow down to the sun. With roots planted deep their future to keep, Wounded and nowhere to run. When life brings me to my knees, I feel the weary trees, And then I hear that still voice inside. He says keep your faith in me and I will set you free, And my love in your heart will abide. My Friend are you blowing in the wind, Don't you know Jesus is your friend. When life puts you on your knees, there you are taller than the trees, And tomorrow the sun will shine again. Keep your roots planted in the son, When your life seems on the run. Get on your knees and bow down, Then let Jesus turn your life around. When the storms are over and the sun has shown, There's that silver lining saying you'll never be alone. So hold your head high when there's a stormy breeze, And know God even takes care of the trees. ~Mickey Yowell He is survived by his spouse, Cindy Yowell; and three children, Jeffrey Yowell & wife, Bertha, Jeremy Yowell and Jennifer Yowell; he is also survived by his three grandkids, Alyssa, Landon and Grant Yowell. Mickey loved and was loved by many lives he has touched over the years. Marty and his family, Camren and his family, Zach, Kim & Mike, Missy, Jason and his family, Jerry and Sue, Christy and Clay and their families, Stephen and family, and many other cherished family members and dear friends that are too many to list but are not overlooked. Everyone is invited to attend the funeral. However, we certainly understand not attending due to Covid precautions. We ask all wear a mask and use social distancing. Than you he loved you all.
