Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), March 11, 1915, p. 1, col. 3 Mrs. Martin Vanek Dead. Mrs. Martin Vanek, residing in East David City, died at her home last Thursday night about 11 o’clock. Death came very suddenly to Mrs. Vanek, as she had not appeared seriously ill, although she had complained of not feeling well for several days. It is thought her death was caused from la grippe affecting her heart. Funeral services were held at the Vanesk residence Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The Z.C.B.J. lodge, of which Mrs. Vanek had been a member for 15 years, had charge of the funeral and burial services.The funeral sermon was given by Rev. E. C Davis, of the Christian church. The singers were Mrs. Frank Sellhorn, Miss Florence Johnson, Lester Clough and Hugo Hahn, with Miss Phoebe Walden as accompanist. The pallbearers were M. J. Bouse, Frank Kucera, J. B. Pospisil, Frank Peschek, Sr., Frank Sochor and John Styskal. Interment was in the David City cemetery. Mrs. Vanek’s maiden name was Katherine Matejechek. She was born in Bohemia April 1, 1863, and was nearly 52 years of age at time of her death. In 1890 she was united in marriage to Martin Vanek and three years later they came to David City. Mr. Vanek, four children, two brothers and one sister survive Mrs. Vanek. The children are Mrs. Mary Martley of Mitchell, S. Dak., Mrs. Rose Adkisson of Millerton and Joseph and Charles Vanek of David City.
