Bio

Garry Wayne Kemp, 72, of Alton, Indiana passed away on Thursday December 31, 2020 in New Salisbury, IN. He was born on June 28, 1948 in New Albany, IN to the late Jack and Alda (East) Kemp. Garry was well known for playing Abe Lincoln in the Crusade for Children and other festivals. He worked for over 40 years as a truck driver for Mulzer Crush Stone. Garry was a member of the Alton Baptist Church and the Sons of the American Legion Post #133. He enjoyed working at the Leavenworth Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Garry will be deeply missed by his friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents; Jack and Alda Kemp, his grandson, Donald Eugene Compton Jr., his nephew, Joe Lee Young, and his brother – in -law, Edgar Stumler. Garry is survived by his sister, Edna Stumler of Floyd Knobs, IN, his twin brother; Larry (Myra) Kemp of Mascoutah, IL, his stepdaughter, Tammy (Larry) Harris of New Salisbury, IN, several other step-children, his granddaughter, Sarah Berry of Ramsey, IN, his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Berry, and many cousins and friends. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday January 6, 2020 at 1:00 P.M at Dillman-Green Funeral Home in Marengo, IN with Bro. Marvin Culver to officiate. Burial will follow in East Cemetery in Alton, IN. Friends may visit on Wednesday January 6, 2020 from 10:00 A.M at Dillman-Green Funeral Home until time of service.
