John Mahan was born Nov. 27, 1843 in Ozark County, Missouri to Issac Newton Mahan (1823-1875) and Louisa Ford (1826-1875). He was married to #1 Mary Marth Nave (daughter of John Nave (1823-1864) and Redissa Trimble (1814-1861) on Oct. 26, 1861 at Marion County, Arkansas. Wife #2 was Mrs. Sarah E. Blythe. They married Dec. 14, 1905 at Mammoth, Ozark County, Missouri. Children of John & Mary Mahan are as follows: Louiza Elizabeth John W. Mahan Martha Jane Isaac Newton Sarah A. Allen W. Nancy E. Alex C. James Thomas Julie M. Jessie Andrew Manda M. John Mahan served in the Civil War with the Union Army-Company I-46th Regiment MO Infantry and Company G-73rd Regiment MO Cavalry. Pension papers give a physical description of 5'8" tall, fair complexion, light hair and blue eyes. He contracted measles in Nov 1864 near Turkey Creek Missouri, caused by exposure resulting in disease of the lungs.
