ARVILLA VanARSDALE Dec. 19, 1911 — Jan. 21, 2004 Arvilla VanArsdale, 92, of John Day died Jan. 21 at her home. She was born in Arcadia, Neb., to William "John" and Jessie (Ballenger) Mizner. She was the sixth of 10 children. On June 7, 1932, she married Eugene VanArsdale in Arnsworth, Neb., where they lived on ranches. In 1946 they headed west and in 1951 they arrived in John Day with their two daughters. They relocated to Central Oregon in 1962, then moved back to John Day in 1996. Mrs. VanArsdale was a homemaker who was active in her church. Even in her 90s, she was energetic and loved to serve others. Often her greeting was "Come on in, sit down and have a cup of coffee." Mrs. VanArsdale is survived by her husband, Gene VanArsdale of John Day; two daughters, Iris Mosley of Canyon City and Joyce Parker of Hillsboro; brother, John Mizner of Kearney, Neb.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eight siblings. Funeral services officiated by the Rev. Jack Retherford were held Jan. 23 at the Bible Way Church. Interment was at Canyon City Cemetery.
