Leah Virginia Burns, 81, of Stover, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia. She was born on July 26, 1939, in Barnett, Missouri, a daughter of John and Martha (Whitted) Kelso, Sr. As a child, she lived in Barnett until her family moved to a farm south of Stover and graduated from Stover High School in 1957. On May 5, 1957, at Stover, she was united in marriage to Arnold Franklin Burns. This union was blessed with the gift of six children: Elvis, Martha, Raymond, Randy, Alice and Sheryl. They made their home in Sedalia until 1969, when they moved to Mora. In 1974, they moved to their farm east of Cole Camp. Leah worked for Swift and Company in Sedalia from 1973 until its closing in December of 1981. She then went to work for Cargill in California until her retirement in 2002. She moved back to Stover in 2003 after selling the farm and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Florence. She enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters, Martha S. Moore of Cole Camp, Alice Burns-Calton of Stover, and Sheryl Burns-Janisch and Todd of Cole Camp; three sons, Elvis Burns and Mary of Sedalia, Raymond Burns and Roger of Sedalia, and Randy Burns and Kathleen of Stover; a sister, Wilda Bogle of Eldon; two brothers, George Kelso and Delphia of Platte City and Carl Kelso and Linda of Pleasant Valley; twelve grandchildren, Robert (Melinda) Burns, Steven (Mary L.) Burns, Elizabeth (Arie) DeMoss, Adam Moore, Amber (Brian) Anderson, Tiffinay (Jason) Nash, Jake (Sara) Jackson, Justin (Kirsten) Jackson, Joshua (Katie) Jackson, Erin (Matt) Guittar, Eric Calton, and Daryn (Destiny) Calton; two step-grandchildren, Justin Kirkpatrick and Kelli Kirkpatrick; twenty-three great-grandchildren, Cylan, Sakenna, and Mikiah Burns, Jasper and Elsie Burns, AJ, Dillon, Lucas, and Eva DeMoss, Joscelyn, Xander, and Jackson Anderson, Kadin and Connor Moore, Jenna, Shelby, and Tucker Nash, Logan and Lauren Jackson, Claire and Corbin Jackson, Dasa Calton, Sebastian Guittar; six step-great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Layla Kirkpatrick and Jordan, Kage, Karson, and Kody Kirkpatrick; two sister-in-laws, Rita Burns of Warsaw and Sharon Burns of Sedalia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha Kelso, Sr., her husband, Arnold Burns, three sisters, Wanda Thompson, Ruth Farr, and Viola Casey, five brothers, John, Dave, James, Alan, and Don Kelso, a son-in-law, Jackie Moore, and several other family and friends. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2020, with funeral services following at 2:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Florence with Steve Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Florence. Pallbearers will be Jake Jackson, Justin Jackson, Joshua Jackson, Robert Burns, Steven Burns, Eric Calton, Daryn Calton, and David Jackson.
