W J Burkette June 7, 1928 - December 25, 2020 W.J. Burkette, 92 years young, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2020. He was born on June 7, 1928 in Escambia County, FL to the late Alvin “Pop” and Lora “Nanny” Burkette. W.J. served in the Army/Air Force in 1946 as an electrician on the Berlin Airlift. He also worked at St. Regis for 40 years where he retired. He loved his family and loved his church. He also loved to fish with his buddy, Dick. They would always catch their limit, leaving everyone wondering where their fishing holes were. W.J. is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Myrtle Lou Burkette; and son-in-law, Buddy Silcox. He is survived by his son, Mike (Cindy) Burkette; daughter, Pam Silcox; grandson, Dusty (Ashley) Burkette, Shawn (Marie) Burkette, Raymond Silcox, Jr., and Brandon (Tanya) Silcox; ten grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10AM on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Highland Baptist Church with Bryan Calhoun officiating. Burial will follow in Pensacola Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
