Rex Marvin Heavin, 89, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 due to Covid-19. He was born March 7, 1931 in Kansas the son of Charles Thomas and Mary Ann Heavin. Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers, Clarence, Hadley, Herbie and Ernest Heavin; one sister, Fern Garrett and one daughter, Ellie Louise Jump. Surviving him are his wife Evelyn Irene (Baldwin)-Wise Heavin whom he married on August 21,1966; one brother, Charles (Frog) Heavin, four sons, Erick William and Ernest Roland (Karen) Heavin, Stephen Kent (Dana) Wise and Phillip Lee (Nadine)Wise.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rex's claim to fame was playing on a minor league baseball team. On the day that some New York Yankee scouts were in the stands observing some kid named Mickey Mantle, Dad was pitching on the opposing team. Mantle grounded out to Rex the first time at bat, was struck out by his knuckle ball the second time, but on the third batting hit his fast ball out of the park. Rex had a golden voice and was offered the opportunity to sing professionally but decided to take the road of ministry instead. He preached for over forty years for the Disciples of Christ Christian Church. He chose the most noble of vocations because God had one son and He was a preacher. Rex liked to make folks laugh, but the problem was he would tell the same jokes over and over. It wasn't so much that his jokes weren't funny but how hard he would start laughing before he could tell the punch line, laughing so hard. Rex was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, pastor and friend and is now in Paradise. The best way to explain heaven is like this: The Grand Canyon in all of its glory and majesty in comparison to the least creation in heaven is nothing more than a giant sink hole. That is what the Scripture says. However, as it is written: "What no eye has SEEN, what no ear has HEARD, and what no human mind has CONCEIVED the things God has prepared for those who love him-- 1 Corinthians 2:1.
