Bio

Mabel Christensen, the daughter of Nels P. and Anna Marie (Boilsen) Lassen, was born on the family farm near Cotesfield, Nebraska on September 15, 1915 and died at Aurora, Nebraska on October 2, 2007, at the age of 92. She grew up on the family farm. Mabel attended school at Lower Cotesfield District 48 and graduated from Cotesfield High School. On April 15, 1939, she was united in marriage to Holger A. Christensen at the Ord Parsonage. They made their home on a farm near Dannevirke. In 1963, they left the farm and moved to Grand Island where they lived until 1968 when they moved to Cairo. They left Cairo and went to St. Paul to make their home in 1980. Her husband passed away in 1982. Mabel later moved to Aurora in 1992 to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Mabel was a member of the Methodist Church, the Danish Brotherhood Lodge No. 211 of Grand Island and the Cairo Art Club. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and also loved her flowers. During harvest, Mabel would stay with Sheryl and her family to help with the children and anything else that she could do to help. She loved to bake, clean and serve people. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Phyllis Jean, three brothers, Henry, Howard, and Edward Lassen, four sisters, Eleanor Jorgensen, Ida Lassen, Mary Hansen and Lillie Blanchard. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Dave Hutsell of Hampton; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kathy Christensen of Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren, Nicole and Shawn Hutsell and Kyle and Kevin Christensen. Mabel is also survived by a brother, Jim (Pete) Lassen of Grand Island.
