Otto Patterson Sr., 91, of Meridian, passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, in the Meridian Manor after an extended illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Meridian First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Meridian Cemetery. Otto was born in Meridian, to the late Artis and Gertrude (Mobley) Patterson. He grew up on the family farm as was the norm for those times, working in the fields to help provide for his family. He met the love of his life, Magerlen Stamnitz, and married her on March 21, 1934, in Meridian. They celebrated 71 years of marriage just before her death, May 9, 2005. He worked with the Texas State Highway Department for over 20 years and was known as the "sign man" as it was his job to maintain the signage in the county. Patterson was a servant of God who loved and nurtured his family in every way. He demonstrated his love for his family by supporting his children and grandchildren in their activities at all ages, from infancy to adulthood. He loved to fish, do woodworking, keep his yard beautiful, and play dominoes with family and friends. His work through the First Baptist Church touched many lives. Everyone in his extended family has been touched and guided by his common and truthful wisdom. He was a tower of strength and inspiration to all. Survivors include daughters, Blanche Knapek and husband, Louis, of Taylor, Peggy Tankersley and husband, Bobby, of Burleson, and Lou Ann Hilderbrand and husband, Donald, of The Colony; sons, Otto Patterson, Jr. and wife, Jean, of McGregor, and Danny Patterson and wife, Judy, of Clifton; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
