Vlasta Shirocky Volcik, 86, of Granger died Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at Santa Fe Hospital in Temple. Family visitation will be 6 - 8 PM, Wednesday, February, 19, 2003 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. Celebration of Life Service will be 10 AM, Thursday at Granger Brethren Church with Rev. Albert Michalik officiating. Burial to follow at Granger Brethren Cemetery. Vlasta was born on June 11, 1916 to Louis and Mary (Gaida) Shirocky in Granger, Texas. Vlasta was married to John Volcik on February 5, 1936 in Granger, Texas. She was a life long resident of Granger and had spent much of her time baby sitting for families in the Granger community. Vlasta enjoyed quilting and made many quilts for her family. She spent many hours in her kitchen baking breads and kolaches. Vlasta was famous for her delicious rosettes and kisses treats. She also enjoyed working with her flowers in her lovely garden. Vlasta was a member of the Granger Brethren Church and the local SPJST Lodge in Granger. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Georgia Jean Volcik; her husband, John Volcik; and her brothers, Alvin Roy Shirocky and Louis Shirocky. Vlasta is survived by her two sons, Johnny Volcik and wife Doris and Darwin Volcik, all of Granger; her daughter, Shirley Volcik of Granger; her brother, J.D. Shirocky and wife Betty of Granger; her sisters, Margaret Kerlin and husband Otis and Louise Rozacky, all of Granger and numerous nieces and nephews.
