Bio
Leroy Unnasch, 88, of San Gabriel and Detmold Communities died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Johns Community Hospital in Taylor. A prayer service will be held at 7 PM, Monday, April 18, 2005 at Providence Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 4 PM, Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at St. John Lutheran Church in Thorndale with Pastor Robert Beicke officiating. Burial will follow at the Detmold Cemetery. Leroy was born in the Detmold Community on July 12, 1916 to Rudolph and Ella (Noack) Unnasch. He and Ella Patschke were united in marriage on January 29, 1939. This union was blessed with five children, fifteen grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church his entire earthly life, and served on various boards and committees. He was also the gravemaster for many years. He enjoyed his lifetime dream of serving in the agricultural field by involving himself in farming and ranching activities. He believed very strongly in soil stewardship. He carried his high standards on to his children and grandchildren by teaching them the value of managing our God giving resources at the earliest possible age. He did this so they too could enjoy the passion and pleasure of something as simple as the fragrance of freshly tilled soil. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ella Unnasch; sons, Curtis Unnasch and wife Betty of Thorndale, Kenneth Unnasch and wife Sue of Bessemer City, NC., and Randall Unnasch and wife Rose of Thorndale; two daughters, Geraldine Richter and husband Jim and Pamela Ballard and husband Roy both of Thorndale; brothers, Wilbert Unnasch and wife Norine of Taylor, R.E. "Sixty" Unnasch and wife Ruby and Verdis Unnasch and wife Betty both of Thorndale; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Pallbearers include Jonathon Unnasch, Russel Richter, Terry Richter, Andrew Unnasch, Chandler Richter, John Unnasch, Roy Ballard, and Jim Richter. Honorary pallbearers include David Unnasch, Matthew Unnasch, Melvin Weise, Ernest Johnson, Larry Gamble, and Henry Fuessel. Memorials may be made to the St, John Lutheran Church in Thorndale.
