Gilbert Wesley Mokry, Sr., age 63, a resident of Taylor since a young teen, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2003. The rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2003 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor. The funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylor with Msgr. Lonnie Urban officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Gilbert was born in Granger, Texas to Frank J. and Annie (Marek) Mokry on September 28, 1939. On May 10, 1958 he married his high school sweetheart, Lucile (Lucy) Conn. Gilbert was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and one of the original appointed Eucharistic Ministers at the Church. He was also Deputy Grand Knight of the local Knights of Columbus having attained the Fourth Degree ranking. Further he was a lifetime member of the Catholic Union of Texas (KJT) and Treasurer for many years of the local chapter and a member of the Altar Society. After working for fourteen years at Kerr-Ban Furniture Mfg. Co., he later was employed with the City of Austin Electric Dept. for more than twenty four years. Then in January, 1999 he retired to continue his love of working on his yard and enjoying many things outdoor. Survivors include his wife, Lucy Mokry; one son, Gilbert W. Mokry, Jr. and wife, Patricia of Taylor; three daughters, Lou Ann Mokry of Round Rock, Gail Simonson and husband, James of Liberty Hill, and Connie (C.J.) Pfau and husband, Jon of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Brandi Susan, Geoffrey Susan, Michelle Mokry, and Melissa Mokry; four stepgrandchildren, Melissa, Chelsea, Macon and Cory Simonson; one sister, G. Ann Krenek and husband, Frank of Taylor; five brothers, Frank Mokry and wife, Martha of Miami Fl., Bernard Mokry and wife, Shirley, Andrew Mokry and wife, Mary Ann, Raymond Mokry and wife, Nancy, and Alfonse Mokry and wife, Barbara. He had numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gilbert was preceded in death by both of his parents and one brother, Alfred. Pallbearers will be nephews Thomas Conn, Jr., Wesley Creppon, James Mokry, Robert Mokry, Clint Mokry, Darrell Mokry, Frank Krenek, Jr. and also close friend Mickey Landry. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandson and step grandsons. Gilbert Mokry will be missed throughout the community where he was thought of as one of the greatest and kindest men ever. He was always thinking of the family, immediate and extended, and doing whatever he could to help others make their lives happier and easier.
