Bryan-College Station Eagle, Tue, Jul 23, 1991 Joe Valla Jr. October 16, 1907 - July 22, 1991 Chriesman - Funeral services for Joe Valla Jr., 83, of Chriesman will be held on Wednesday. Burial will follow in the New Tabor Cemetery. He died Monday morning in a Temple hospital. He was born in Vsetin, Czechoslovakia. He and his family moved to the United States in 1910 and settled in the New Tabor community in Burleson County. He was a member of the Brethren Church. He had been a resident of Chriesman since 1922. he served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Deutsch - Houston American Legion Post No. 451 in Caldwell. He was a retired mechanic and drove a bus for Chriesman schools for 32 years. "Mr. Joe" as his students called him, kept local weather and rainfall records for more than 50 years and reported them to the local newspaper. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed movies, dancing and repairing things. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister and two nephews.
