Herman attended Foley High School, Trade School, served in the Navy and was a member of Rosinton United Methodist Church. Herman served in the Navy on a destroyer and ammo ship during the Korean War. He was awarded a National Defense Medal – Korean Service Medal with one silver and two bronze battle stars and a United Nations Medal – Navy Occupation Medal. He was an electrician by trade but could fix almost anything. He ran Murphy’s Electric Motor Repair and worked in his shop until he was in his 80’s. He helped everyone, night or day, from neighbors to strangers in need. He invented many devices for practical use as well as for fun. He enjoyed hunting, boating, team and calf roping, catching cows that got loose from the Robertsdale Stockyard, airboats and “gator” catching, and taking family on adventures. Many good times were spent at the beach, on boats, fishing, swimming and having fun. Herman was preceded in death by his father, Herman A. Murphy Sr. and his mother, Mabel Geneve Galloway Murphy.
