Reathel Bailey Poe was born on December 5, 1920 to Henry "Doc" and Mary Bailey in Cravens, Louisiana. Moma was the 10th child and youngest girl of 12 children. She married the Love of her life, Howard Cecil Poe on November 15, 1936. Together they raised 3 Daughters: Leval, Levern (Pee Wee) and Teri Lynn. Howard departed from this life too soon, on November 30, 1974. They were blessed with 9 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren. Our parents were good, honest, hardworking people who believed in God and chose to serve the Lord with all their heart. They loved God, family, church, neighbors, friends, community and country. They were always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter who needed it and could be found at church when the doors were opened. I remember many nights falling asleep on my knees with my head in a chair with the sound of my Mom & Dad praying and waking up every morning to the sound of my Dad on his knees praying. Moma loved to sing and teach Sunday school. She could be found at the church with the Ladies Auxillary making tamales, peanut brittle or any number of things to raise money for the church. She was the Youth Leader, the Song Leader or any position where she was needed to help out. Later in life, Moma took up oil painting and left numerous paintings that we will all treasure. And not to be forgotten, was her participation in the Senior Olympics through the Senior Citizen Center in Leesville. She excelled at shooting pistols, rifles and archery, winning numerous Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals. Everything she did, she did with all her heart. I don't understand how we will go on without her, she was a great and wonderful Mother who was always there to hold your hand or to lend you a helping hand and to pick you up when you would fall, brush the dirt off, put on a band aid and push you back out there to try again. The times when you just couldn't go on any more, she was there to hold you in her arms, wipe away the tears and tell you everything was going to be OK. Even through the pain and loss of her disease, she never lost her spunk and was a fighter to the end. The main concern was always her children and you knew you always had a place of comfort just to be in her presence, a place where you could lay your head on her shoulder or in her lap and where just being with Moma wold make everything better. Her smile could brighten any day and when you would see that spark of recognition in her eyes and she would give you that beautiful smile of hers, you knew how much she loved you. 3 Daughters & Son-in-Laws: Leval & W.C.
