Gertrude Joan "Trudy" Te Slaa June 11, 1935 ~ September 11, 2020 Mrs. Gertrude “Trudy” Te Slaa, age 85, of Hull, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020, at Sioux Center Health. There will be a funeral service on Monday, September 14, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Van Rathbun will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation with the family will follow the interment, at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. Gertrude Joan was born on June 11, 1935, in Hull, the daughter of Isaac and Matilda (Vander Vliet) Kuipers. She was raised on a farm in rural Hull. Following her graduation from Hull High School, she was a live-in maid for new mothers, helping them with household chores. On February 16, 1954, she married Howard James Te Slaa at the First Reformed Church in Hull. They farmed in the Hull area their entire married life, wintering in Arizona for sixteen years. In November of 2015, Howard and Gertrude “Trudy” moved to Aspen Heights, and in February of 2017, they transferred to the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. Howard passed away on November 8, 2017, in Hull. Shortly thereafter, Trudy returned to Aspen Heights. Trudy was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she participated in Ladies Aide and served multiple terms as Service Chair. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, and square skipping. Trudy was known as a phenomenal cook and loved to entertain. Above all, she was a devoted wife, living mother and a grandmother who enjoyed her grandchildren to the fullest. Survivors include six children and their spouses, Renita and Dan Kahlstorf, of Britt; Glenda and Kent Meyn, of Ames; Harwin and Diane Te Slaa, of Hull; Beth and Darrell Schmith, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Darwin and Lisa Te Slaa, of Hull; and Lisa and Mike De Boer, of Fairmont, Minnesota; eighteen grandchildren and their spouses, Danielle and Michael Stensrud, Austin and Katelynn Meyn, Tyler and Jade Kahlstorf, Alyssa and Mitch Chitwood, Joshua and Christi Meyn, Sheila and Jamisen Nielsen, Zachary and Sarah Schmith, Terissa and David Leinart, Ashley and Andy Smith, MaKenzie and Trey Bosecker, Allison and Chris Sietstra, Micah De Boer, Jamison Te Slaa, Kali De Boer, Megan Meyn, Spencer Te Slaa, Jonathan Te Slaa, and Tanner Te Slaa; Eleven great-grandchildren with five more on the way; two brothers and their spouses, Gradus and Caroline Kuipers and Gerrit and Carol Kuipers; a sister, Karen Dykstra; and three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law and their spouses, Cleo and Joyce Te Slaa, Dee and Claus Gorter, Norm and Cathy Te Slaa, Arlen and Carol Te Slaa, and Sharon and Marv Winkel. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three infant children, Ronald, Rhonda, and Rachel; a sister and her husband, Hermina and Vernon Hamann; and a brother-in-law Richard Dykstra.
