Bio

Norman Edward Pohl was born to Theodore and Lenora Pohl on July 27, 1932. He spent the first eighteen years of life growing up in Nebraska with his three brothers (Dale, Wilfred, Raymond), and sister (Letha). After his graduation from Thayer High School he joined the army in 1950 and served in Kentucky and Eniwetok Atoll. Upon his discharge in 1952 he returned to Nebraska, and then relocated to Idaho where he met the love of his life, Barbara Rehwalt. They married September 1, 1957, and had two daughters (Chris and Julie). They had 60 years of married life and loved each other very much. Norman loved life and never knew a stranger. He enjoyed teasing and telling jokes. He always had a good joke ready to tell anyone he encountered. It made him happy to make others laugh. His hobbies were gardening, playing poker, and spending time with grandchildren. He loved working with his hands. He worked very hard all his life. He loved when all his fruit trees were in full bloom. Norman loved to accomplish goals. This trait was very important when he lost his leg. He faced monumental struggles but still strove to be the best he could be. Norman is survived by his wife (Barbara); daughters Chris (Curtis) Chugg and Julie (Mark) Schmahl; grandchildren Jami Jackson, Cynthia Chugg, Karlene (Chance) Owens, Jessica (Jacob) Martin, and Austin Schmahl; great-grandchildren Stewart and Spencer Shropshire, Kaleb and Kimberly Owens, Gavin Chugg and Madison Martin. Norman was preceded in death by his parents (Theodore and Lenora Kohtz Pohl), his brothers (Dale, and Raymond Pohl), and his sister (Letha Jorgensen). Funeral Services were held on March 19, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Eden. Burial followed in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.
