Bio
Martha Jane (Chenault) Byrd passed away at her home on Sept. 12, 2007. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Connally Compton Chapel with Father Shannon as Officiant. Interment will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Martha was an amazing woman who lived life to the fullest. Her zest for life was contagious, and all who knew and loved her were richer for the experience. Her generous and vivacious spirit will leave a void in the lives of all who loved her. Martha was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Episcopal Church in Laguna Park. She loved bowling, collecting elephant figurines and traveling. She and Gene hosted many wonderful fish fries for friends and family. She was an accomplished seamstress, cook and beautician. She was preceded in death by her brothers, D.O. Chenault and J.R. Chenault. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Robert Eugene "Gene" Byrd; children, Jeannie Summers and husband, Skip, of Whitewright, Texas, Priscilla Greene and partner, Joe Koch, of Austin, Martha Lyn Sharkey, of Missoula, Mont., and Charles Ray Byrd, of Waco; seven grandchildren and their spouses; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, B.J. Chenault and wife, Evelyn, of Lubbock; sister, Barbara MacManus and husband, Jay, of San Antonio; and a sister-in-law, Doris Chenault, of Houston. The mother was formerly Martha Jane Chenault.
