Daughter of Louis & Mary (Reimer) Hoeppner. Married to Merle G. Born on 1-13-1951 at O'Neill, NE. (Norfolk Daily News 09/10/2007) PLAINVIEW - Services for Mary Lou Born, 75, of Plainview were Monday at the First Congregational Church with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery. Ashburn Funeral Home was in charge. She died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Bryan-LGH East in Lincoln. --- Mary Lou was born Sept. 20, 1931, at Osmond to Louis and Mary (Reimer) Hoeppner. She was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Osmond. She graduated from Osmond Public School in 1949. Mary Lou worked in numerous cafes in Osmond and at Baber's Cafe in Plainview as a waitress because they said, "She would never make a good cook.' While working in Baber's, she met Merle G. Born, and they were united in marriage on July 13, 1951, in O'Neill. They then moved to Memphis, Tenn., for a year before returning to the Plainview area. Mary Lou and Merle had five children to their union. They took over Mary's Cafe in 1963, building a new Mary's Steakhouse and Lounge in 1973, where she continued until the time of her death. Mary Lou enjoyed the business and the many people she was able to meet over the years. She also enjoyed embroidering, reading, listening to Elvis and visiting the slot machines. Surivivors include children, Gregory (Laureen) Born of Austin, Texas, Candi (Gary) Johnson of Plainview, Bobbie (Sam) Clinch of Lincoln, Todd (Kathryn) Born of Austin, Texas, Scott (Diane) Born of Plainview; 10 grandchildren, Christa Born and special friend Michael Beckmann, Stephanie Born, Natalie Born, Michelle Johnson and fiance Brandon Herchenbach, Kimberly (Derek) Zuhlke, Ellen Clinch, Michael Clinch, Shanda Born, Drake Born, Danica Born, Monica (Wade) Christensen, Paul Anthony Broerman; three great-grandchildren, Wesley Christensen, Whyatt Christensen and John Austin Christensen; brothers, Rod (Linda) Hoeppner of Belden, Kenneth (Marilyn) Hoeppner of Pierce; sisters, Erma Lackas, Shirley (Alfred) Greiner, Hilda Wecker, all of Randolph; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hoeppner of Osmond, Margorie Ahlman of Hastings, Glea (Gerald) Haupt of Sidney, Elaine (Lowell) Zelmer of Pierce; brothers-in-law, Donald (Velma) Born of Sidney, Harlan (June) Born of Nesbit, Miss. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle in 1989; sisters, Verna May, Dorothy, Lorraine and Arlene; brothers, Milford, Swaine, Lyle and Louis.
