son of Dougal McCall and Margaret Jane Mark. Husband of Mary Alice Wheatcraft McCall PIONEER AT 15 As a youth of 15, Mark moved with his parents to a homestead northwest of Ord, which was the family home while his father served as a pioneer teacher, educator and county superintendent. Mark attended the Tarkio, Mo., college and also the Shenandoah, Iowa, teacher college. He taught school for many years in Greeley county, much of the time walking to and from his school each weekend. On March 17, 1897 he married Mary Wheatcraft. They migrated to Wells County, N.D., where they took a homestead and lived for several years. Returning to Nebraska, Mr McCall served for two years as rural mail carrier at Arcadia and later carried route one out of North Loup for 19 years. His mail delivery was made with team and buggy, before the days of cars. He retired from the mail service in 1933, continuing to make his home on a farm near North Loup. After the death of his wife in 1942, Mr. McCall moved to North Loup where he was a familiar figure on the street each day. Until the time of his last illness, Mr McCall continued to be acive. Very recently he had bought a place in the east part of town which he had remodeled and fixed to rent. He owned several other properties in the village and made a practice of setting out orchards wherever he had a vacant lot. Two years ago he raised more than an acre of tomatoes, doing most of the cultivating and marketing himself. Mr McCall was a member of the Friends Church of North Loup, later transferring his membership to Central City. After the Friends Church was disbanded, Mark was a faithful attendant at the Methodist Church. Survivors include one brother, Fred of Yucaipa, Calif., seven children, Mrs. Margaet Tolbert of North Loup, James D. of Ord, Edward Rollins of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs Frances McManus of Torrance, Calif., Mrs Mae Sadler, Kearney, Mrs. Ruth Lemonds and Mrs. Pearle Libby both of Springfield, Ore., 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
