The angels were calling Helen Marie Foytik, (Gigi) 95, a resident at Beacon Hill care facility in Denison, Texas, home to be with her Heavenly Father on July 31, 2020. Her death was not related to the current COVID virus, but rather due to a history of heart issues. Helen was a precious mother to two daughters, Pat Scott and Pam Cole, a devoted grandmother to four grandchildren, Kim Seale and husband Steve, Kyle Scott, Rachel Stanton and husband Alistair, and Ragan Hurt and husband Myers. She was also a much loved great grandmother to Kyla, Kayla, Jared, and Brodie, and blessed just this year with two new, sweet great grandbabies, Daisy and Easton. Helen was predeceased in death by her devoted parents William and Ann Hickey, her loving husband Ben Foytik, Sr., a cherished son, Ben Foytik, Jr., one older brother, Carl Hickey, and two wonderful son-in-laws, Woodie Scott and James Cole. Helen was born in Electra, TX, on February 16, 1925. She married Ben, her devoted husband of 62 years, soon after graduating from Electra High School. Ben was an Air Force B-26 navigator, so their first married years were spent on military bases in Wichita Falls and Del Rio. Her personal choice for a profession would have been being an actress, mainly because as a child, she had a cameo appearance in an episode of Little Rascals, and she was forever bitten by the acting bug. As an adult, she also had a cameo appearance in a film about the assassination of John F Kennedy, but was cut from the final film due to repeatedly watching the action instead of being part of it. That did not deter her from being an entertainer, as she was the life of any party, and could be counted on for her enthusiastic story telling. The family “Gigi stories” will be cherished for generations to come. After several years of moving to several locations in Texas and Oklahoma, Helen and Ben moved to Irving, Texas, which would remain their home for over 30 years. During those years, Helen began her love of the medical field by becoming a medical librarian at Southwestern Medical School. She then moved to administrative assistant in the Microbiology Department at the Medical School. For the remainder of her career, she worked for Dr. Reg McDaniel, finally moving to her most cherished position as Vice President of Fisher Institute for Medical Research, which Dr. McDaniel founded. She remained in that position, working full time until she was 90. Helen’s last years were spent at Beacon Hill in Denison, as a nursing home resident. Helen loved the many staff members there who took excellent care of her and who became her dear friends. Her family is very grateful for the atmosphere of love and care Helen was surrounded with at Beacon Hill, where she truly loved being a resident. A longtime friend that Helen would have eagerly embraced as her “almost son”, John McCuistion, remembered her as everyone who knew her would concur, “Helen will always be remembered as a rock of faith and grace to everyone. Always calm and collected and full of kindness. The grace in her voice will always be with us. Heaven is a brighter place with her there.”
