Bennie was the son of Tyler and Millie Hortman Rutledge. He shares a stone with his wife, Opal Mae Bryan Rutledge. OBITUARY: Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Friday, 1 April 1988: Services for Bennie Rutledge, 70, of Route 2, Elkhart, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Bailey & Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Otis Felton officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories in Elkhart. Mr. Rutledge died Thursday at Anderson County Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 24, 1917, in McKinney, a son of Tyler and Millie Hortman Rutledge. He was a retired salesman for Tifco Industries. Survivors include his wife, Opal Bryan Rutledge of Elkhart; son, Travis W. Rutledge of Houston; sisters, Gladys Moore and Tressie Radford, both of Palestine, Dorothy Roy of Lake Palestine and Donnie Moore of Lake Livingston; brothers, Arnold Rutledge of New Mexico and Audrey Rutledge of Houston; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Pallbearers will be Loren Thompson, Earl Smith, Ted Moore, Jay Berry, Steve Roy and Dwain Harris.
