Services for Timothy Ray Rogers, 11, of 5318 47th st., who died Sunday after a fall in Palo Duro Canyon, will be at 2:30P.M in the W.W. Rix Chapel with the Rev. S.W Keeton, pastor of the Bellaire Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Peaceful Gardens Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors. The youth apparently fell some 30 feet, according to reports by park rangers. There were no witnesses to the accident. Amarillo Justice of the Peace Phil Woodall ruled the death accidental. The boy suffered severe head injuries, Woodall said. Rogers was pronounced dead on arrival at 7:40 P.M at Palo Duro Hospital in Canyon. No Autopsy was ordered. Rogers was a fifth grade student at Wester Elementary School in Lubbock. He was a Baptist. He was active in sports, participating in the youth Football League. He played basketball in the Monterey Optimists' League and was on a city soccer team, the Eagles.He also participated in city park swimming competitions. Survivors include his parents, John and Mary Rogers;and three sisters,Brenda, Raechel and Jennifer, all of Lubbock. The Casket Bearers are: Danson Cook, Cody Clowers, Brian Crowder, Erick McClellan, Mark McCellan, Stephen Smith. The Lubbock Soccer Association in conjunction with other Lubbock business has established the Timothy Ray Rogers Memorial Fund at Whisperwood National Bank. Funds will go to Brenda J Rogers family. A tribute published in the pages of The Lubbock Avalanche, Lubbock, Texas, May 30, 1984 His favorite Gospel song was" The Family of God", Which was sung at his funeral.
