Served in Company F, 7th Militia Missouri for the Union Army in the Civil War. Parents were Samuel Smith Sturdevant (1812-1856) and Cynthia Myers (1811-1866). Both are buried in Iroquois County, Illinois. Samuel Nelson Sturdevant was the husband of Rebecca Emaline Pendergraft, married 16 Apr 1866 in Bolivar, Polk County, Missouri. They had 10 children. No one knows which cemetery in Halfway, Polk County, Missouri he is buried in. He was shot while riding his horse back home which was in Bolivar, Polk County, Missouri. He preferred to be called Nelson Sturdevant.
