Bio

Richard H. “Dick” Tiemeier, age 93, of Vinton, formerly of Burlington, died July 10, 2020, with his family by his side. Born on May 26, 1927, in Burlington, he was the son of Walter E. and Louise Miller Tiemeier. He married Janet E. Harmer on August 25, 1956, in Burlington. She preceded him in death on April 28, 2016. Dick was a graduate of Burlington High School and the University of Iowa College of Engineering. He was a Registered Professional Engineer. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a staff sergeant in the Army of Occupation in South Korea following World War II. He was employed as Plant Engineer for Mason & Hanger Co. at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, retiring in 1992 after 41 years of service. After retirement, he worked part-time for American Ordnance L.L.C. as an energy/utilities consultant. He was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 568, and the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, woodworking, gardening, loyally following his Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and Bears and raising purple martin colonies. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents (Walter E. and Louise), two brothers (James and Walter B.) and sister (Vera).
