Shyrie Frances Dyess, 72, of Amarillo, TX, passed away on July 7, 2020, with her family by her side. She was born to the late Herbert M. Foster and Doris Foster on January 11, 1948, in Amarillo, Texas. Shyrie graduated from Amarillo High School in 1966 and received her Bachelor’s degree in music from West Texas State College in 1970. She was married to T. Todd Dyess in 1970. Shyrie is survived by two children: Laura Zavala, and her spouse Luis Zavala, of Allen, TX, and Wesley Dyess of Amarillo, TX. She is survived by four grandchildren: Avery and Sebastian Zavala of Allen, TX; Carson and Chloe Dyess of Amarillo, TX. Shyrie is survived by one cousin, Tracy Everett of Denver, CO. Shyrie was preceded in death by her mother and father and one grandchild, Gabriella Dyess. Shyrie was an accomplished musician. She faithfully served many United Methodist churches in the Texas Panhandle/New Mexico areas as the church pianist and organist. Shyrie also taught music in several Texas Panhandle public school systems. As her final employment, she worked alongside her husband Todd as the office manager for the Northwest Texas Conference as Todd served as the District Superintendent. Shyrie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a faithful companion to Todd. They made a great team serving their communities in their 47 years of ministry. A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Amarillo, TX. The celebration of life service will take place at Polk Street United Methodist Church at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 10, 2020. There will be a private family burial ceremony before the celebration of life service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in support of cancer research go to the Amarillo American Cancer Society, PO Box 51206, Amarillo, TX 79159, in memory of Shyrie Dyess, or to Polk Street United Methodist Church at 1401 S. Polk, Amarillo, TX 79109.
