Lottie was born in Alabama to Major James Lewis Jones and Ada Marlow Jones. She shares a stone with her husband, James Monroe Meredith. OBITUARY: Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Monday, 17 July 1978: Mrs. Lottie Meredith, 77, of Route 1, Elkhart, died Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in Anderson County Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Funderal services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witensses on S. Royall St., with Daniel LaRocca officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Elkhart. The body will be at Hassell & Foster until carried to the church for services. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The former Lottie Elizabeth Jones, Mrs. Meredith was born in Alabama on Feb. 7, 1901 a daughter of the late James and Ada Marlow Jones. She had lived in Elkhart all her adult life and for two years she taught at the Rocky Mound School. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses and was the first female rural mail carrier in Texas. She retired in 1966 after serving as a carrier at Elkhart for 28 years. Her husband, James Monroe Meredith, preceded her in death on April 15, 1931. Survivors include a son, Thomas J. Meredith, Houston; four daughters, Mrs. N. M. (Agnes) Peterson of Palestine, Mrs. Roland E. (Jean) Lomax of Elkhart, Mrs. Douglas (Frances) Brown of Houston, and Mrs. Rudy (Billie Faye) Kury of Beaumont; a brother, Turner Jones, of Elkhart; a sister, Mrs. Elna Smith of Waco; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Condolence calls will be received at the N. M. Peterson residence, 1702 Old Brushoy Creek Road.
