Don Gates, 89, Redland, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2006, at McCurtain Memorial Hospital, Idabel. He was born February 5, 1917, at Bethel, OK, the son of William (Bill) and Bess (Wilson) Gates. Don married Faye Gates in September, 1947, at Mena, AR. He was a veteran who served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II, European Theater. He graduated High School at Battiest and Southeastern State College in Durant. He was a teacher at Broken Bow Middle School for thirty-four years retiring in 1976. He was also a poultry farmer and cattle rancher for thirty years. He loved being out on the farm with his son Terry. Don was self-made and very hardworking. Even after his physical health kept him from his farm, he still had a sharp mind, actively trading stocks on the internet. He was affiliated with the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Gates; parents, William (Bill) and Bess Gates; and sister, Hazel Mosley. He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Terry Gates and wife Leah, Redland Community; daughter, Kathryn Wood and husband Larry, Kingston, OK.; brothers, Russell Gates and wife Dorothy, TX, Gene Gates, Tulsa, Billy Gates and wife Beth, CA, and Wendell Gates and wife Francine, Tulsa; six grandchildren, Brett Lane and wife Michelle, Blake Lane, Shelly Blalock and husband Shawn, Brandon Gates, Lindsey Gates and Anna McLain; three great-grandchildren, Colton Lane, Daxen Lane, Jace Gates.
