Obituary from Daily Herald (Provo, UT) - Sunday, February 20, 2005: Karen Gillman Haebig, age 68, passed away, January 21, 2005, in Texas. She was born November 16, 1936, in Provo, UT, the daughter of John and Donna Madsen Gillman. She was a graduate of the University of Utah with a degree in elementary education and taught first grade before her marriage. She married John D. Haebig in Salt Lake City on November 23, 1961. She and her husband lived in Seattle, Southern California, Houston, and have resided in Fredericksburg, TX, since 1991. She was an active member, officer, and board member of the Fredericksburg Music Club, Fredericksburg Garden Club, and Fredericksburg Academic Boosters Scholarship Committee. She was also active in Hospice, Lions Club, Gillespie County Historical Society, and was involved in raising funds for Hill Country Memorial Hospital. Karen was an artist in china painting and textile arts, and enjoyed gardening, classical music, reading, theater, and antiques; but, was primarily a gracious, giving person. Survivors include her husband; her twin sister, Mrs. Karmen Streng, of Davis, CA; sister, Mrs. Audrey Bailey, of Lindon, UT; brother, J. Wayne Gillman, of Bountiful, UT; six nephews, one niece, and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
