Bio

Troy Earl Walkup, 80, returned to his Lord in heaven on December 13, 2016. Memorial Services will be at 11 am on Saturday, January 28 in the chapel at San Remo, 3550 Shiloh Road, Richardson, Texas 75082, with Rev Joel Johnson officiating. Mr Walkup was born in Childress in 1936, to Thomas Edward and Nettie Walkup and graduated from Childress High School in 1954. He worked for the Fort Worth & Denver Railway before volunteering in 1957 for service in the US Army where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He moved to Amarillo in 1959 and married Loretta Simpson, also of Childress, at King Memorial Methodist Church in 1960. He retired from the US Post Office where he was employed as an electronic technician. During his career he was a dedicated and vocal member of the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO. Troy was an avid photographer focused on the wide open spaces of the Texas Panhandle. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his wife Loretta Simpson Walkup, his brother Lloyd Walkup and his sister Faye Walkup Mize. Survivors include his daughter Susan Walkup Larmer, son-in-law Richard Larmer and granddaughter Ava Marie Larmer all of Highland Village; son, Greg Walkup and daughter -in-law Mary Hart of Atlanda, GA.; and brother George Walkup of Childress. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests doing a random act of kindness for someone in Troy's memory, or making a donation to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. *****************
